"Every second heart attack I treat could have been avoided." (Prof. Ulf Landmesser)
"Every second heart attack I treat could have been avoided," emphasized Prof. Ulf Landmesser at the inaugural BILD Heart Summit in Berlin, held in mid-April under his scientific direction.
More than 100 experts in medicine, science, and politics gathered at the Axel Springer Building to address the significant challenges cardiovascular diseases pose to individuals and the healthcare system in Germany. Participants discussed strategies and innovations to lessen the disease burden and alleviate strain on the healthcare system.
Prevention and early detection play a crucial role in this. Prof. Landmesser emphasized that everyone should therefore be aware of their own risk factors. Health Minister Prof. Karl Lauterbach highlighted the untapped potential of prevention, stating, "If all risk factors were treated, the mortality rate from heart attacks could be reduced by 90 percent!"
A lively exchange reinforced the collective agreement that prevention is key to saving lives.
