Prof. Dr. med. Ulf Landmesser 

Cardiologist

Professor Ulf Landmesser has been Head of the Department of Cardiology, Angiology and Intensive Care Medicine at the Benjamin Franklin Campus of Charité's German Heart Center since 2014 (until 12/2022 Department of Cardiology at Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin) and has also been Divisional Director and Deputy Medical Director of Charité's German Heart Center (DHZC) since January 1, 2023.
After studying medicine at Hannover Medical School, the University of Connecticut in Farmington (USA) and the National Heart & Lung Institute in London (UK), Professor Landmesser completed his specialist training in internal medicine and cardiology at Hannover Medical School. In 2000/2001, Professor Landmesser was a fellow of the German Society of Cardiology (DGK e.V.) and a Feodor Lynen Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation at the Department of Cardiology at Emory University School of Medicine in Atlanta (USA). In the same year, he received the Servier Young Investigator Award of the International Symposium on Mechanisms of Vasodilation, Boston, MA (USA) and the Outstanding Fellows in Cardiology Special Recognition Award of the Cardiology Fellows Forum of Excellence, Anaheim, CA (USA).
After completing his specialist training, Professor Landmesser initially worked as a senior physician at the Clinic for Cardiology and Angiology at Hannover Medical School from 2006 to 2007, before being called to the Clinic for Cardiology at the University Hospital Zurich in 2007, where he worked as a senior physician (2007 - 2009), Head of Interventional and Acute Cardiology (2010 - 2014) and Deputy Clinic Director (2012 - 2014). In 2012, Professor Landmesser was awarded the Götz Award, the official prize of the Medical Faculty of the University of Zurich, in the field of cardiovascular prevention.
In addition to his clinical work, Professor Landmesser has been Deputy Editor of the European Heart Journal, the leading cardiovascular journal in Europe, since 2008 and is involved in committees of the German Society of Cardiology e.V. (Congress Presidency Annual Meeting 2025) and the European Society of Cardiology (ESC, Clinical Practice Guideline Committee).
Professor Landmesser's particular research interest lies in the translational and clinical development of new personalized management and therapeutic strategies for cardiovascular diseases, with a focus on coronary heart disease, minimally invasive therapeutic strategies and the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
Since 2022 Professor Landmesser is Director of the Friede Springer-Cardiovascular Prevention Center @ Charité, newly founded in 2022.
